I just overheard a couple of coworkers saying that anyone who supports Florida's new gun law is stupid. I guess I'm stupid.
A recent article in the Washington Post states that the law says a person "has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm".
Before this law a person's first obligation was to retreat from an attacker when threatened with deadly force. Why? If anyone in my family is under that kind of threat you can bet I won't be worrying about the fate of the attacker. That doesn't mean I'm looking for a fight, but I'm not going to run and get shot in the back.
