Today I received a notification that there was a Java update available, so I decided to upgrade my JDK and runtime. I tried installing the Java 5 Update 4, but it failed.

After getting the popup shown below I did a quick Google search and found the root of the problem. Apparently the Google desktop indexer locked a directory that the Java installer was using during its install process. I shutdown Google desktop, retried the install, and it worked as expected.

Google caused the problem and helped me find the solution.
